Michigan DOT Freeway Lighting
Located in the Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties the freeway lighting system consists of approximately 15,000 fixtures and the underlying infrastructure. Prior to the project, the majority of the system’s fixtures were inefficient high-pressure sodium or metal halide fixtures. Starting in August 2015, the system was upgraded and the outdated lights were replaced with energy-efficient LED technology.
Construction was completed on time and within budget in August 2017. Since the start of operations, performance efficiency has exceeded 98% in regard to lights in good working order. The improved system is helping increase highway safety conditions for the traveling public and is generating significant energy savings for the Michigan Department of Transportation since the start of operations.
