San Jose Student Housing

The project involves the design, construction, financing, operation and maintenance of a Class “A,” 260-unit/1,039-bed, purpose-built mixed-use student housing community that will serve students attending San Jose State University—one of the oldest public universities in California. San Jose State University has seen record enrollment in recent years, and this project will provide an attractive option for students in need of near-campus housing.

Located just one block from the main entrance to San Jose State University’s campus, this new 543,234 square-foot, 19-story high-rise building will offer students a mix of studio, two-bedroom, three-bedroom, and four-bedroom units. The purpose-built student housing community will include 14,750 square-feet of double-height retail space, a four-level parking garage topped with a recreation area, including a state-of-the-art fitness center, and a resort-style pool deck.

The project team is responsible for financing the full cost of the project and will be responsible for the design, construction, and ongoing operation and maintenance of the building. Revenues will be primarily generated from rental rates paid by students to occupy the available beds, with supplemental revenue provided through leases of the retail space, parking fees, and various other sources. Construction of the building began in December 2017 and is expected to be completed in May 2020.
